First, wake up early while everyone else, including the machines, is still asleep. A quiet environment creates a "down network" where thought is clear and uninterrupted. Second, stay in the alpha state right after waking and, with practice, dip into theta. These brain frequencies foster creativity, intuition and focus.
I spend three to five minutes each morning in this state. I picture two stacks of cash clacking together in my hands—not because money itself is the goal, but because it represents security, creative freedom and time to process and deploy ideas. I feel the weight, hear the sound and smell the paper. Then I turn my attention to the clients and prospects I serve and visualize their happiness and glowing reviews.
Ancient wisdom echoes this idea of internal unity. In the Gospel of Thomas Jesus teaches that when we make the inside like the outside and the two become one we can enter the kingdom. He also says that if two people make peace with one another they can tell a mountain to move and it will move. Elsewhere in the same text he explains that when you make the two one you become children of man and your words can move mountains. And he reminds us that there is light within a person of light; when it shines it enlightens the whole world. Regardless of your beliefs, these sayings highlight a universal truth: when your heart and mind are aligned, you gain leverage over your environment.
